Mandate and Mission Statement
Mandate:Our mandate is to provide support and shelter to women and children experiencing abuse. We provide temporary crisis shelter and related services in a cooperative living environment for women and children who are victims of violence. We assist in the development and improvement of services and facilities to meet the needs of women and children. We work to empower women to make their own decisions for themselves and their children. Libra House Mission Statement: At Libra House we believe that women and children have the right to a safe, secure environment. Our mission is to provide a crisis shelter for women and their children affected by abuse and to encourage empowerment of women in the community through caring support and education. - Libra House opened in December of 1985 and is located in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.
- Libra House has 5 bedrooms and a total of 10 beds. - On average we provide shelter to 82 families per year. - Women may stay at the shelter for up to 6 weeks. - We provide 24 hour service, 7 days a week. This includes a 24 hour crisis phone line. - Staffing consists of 1 administrator, 4 full-time employees and 4 to 7 casual employees. - We are governed by a Board of Directors. Our Partners
